According to Apple Insider, the upcoming iPhone 3.1 - tipped in the latest Apple firmware leak - will use the Broadcom BCM4329 wireless chip. That chip is known to support advanced power saving features, WiFi draft-n and FM receiving and transmitting, suggesting the new iPhone may be able to stream music to a car stereo.

After last week's rumors, Skype's iPhone client has been confirmed. The VoIP software, which will be released on Tuesday March 31st, will be a free download and allow users to make free Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi networks. Alternatively, calls to landlines will cost 2.1 cents per minute.

Apple retail stores just started selling unrestricted quantities of the iPhone 3G, following AT&T's plans to sell one phone per customer at full price. AT&T have announced plans to sell a contract-free Apple iPhone 3G, although they will not allow users pre-pay service but instead still require a standard monthly plan. Both the 8GB and 16GB version of the handset will be on offer, priced at $599 and $699 respectively.
