Remember our friendly reminder to websites that used the trademark 'iPhone' in their name? Now might certainly be a good time to get out while the getting is good. It appears that Apple has somehow secured the domain iPhone.com.

We don't know any of the details surrounding the acquisition, but if you go to iPhone.com you will be directed to the iPhone section of Apple's website. I'm quite curious if Apple offered the previous owner a large sum of money for the domain, or if they used strong-arm tactics.
While it certainly would be great to get a big fat check from Apple to hand over your domain, it's unlikely that they would attempt to buy anyone else off. Besides, you would lose a good deal of your readership simply because they would no longer be able to find your site. This is very likely only the first domain of many that Apple has decided to take action on.
Thanks Dane!
Updated - Rumor has it that Apple purchased the domain for an undisclosed 7 figure amount. Damn!
Update #2 - It looks like Michael Kovatch was holding out so long on selling because he purchased the domain back in 1995 and has been trying to build a successful business around it. He purchased the domain because he had enough foresight to know that the internet would one day allow telephone calls, and IPhone would be a great name. I bet he never thought that domain would land him so much money.
