One of my favorite, albeit pointless apps for my iPhone is PhoneSaber. It's the simple app that turns your phone into a lightsaber. It uses the accelerometer to make lightsaber sound effects as you swing around your phone. It's definitely a must-have for any Star Wars fan, however, it has been pulled from the App Store.

Asteroids is one of those games that's been around since the beginning of time, or at least since before I was born. The concept is simple, you point your space ship at an asteroid, and shoot it. You can also move around to avoid getting hit, and the larger chunks of space rock break into smaller bits. Well, Comet Cowboy ...

When I was a kid we had a computer lab full of old Apple II computers, which we would use maybe twice a year to play games on. We had several games to choose from, but I really only remember two that I would play; Oregon Trail and Frogger. Unless you are very young, I would be willing to bet ...

The Magic 8-Ball is one of those simple toys that will probably never die. After all, it was created back in 1946. We just seem to have a fascination with leaving decisions up to a D20 encased in a water-filled 8-ball (and you thought only D&D geeks used D20s). Oddly enough, 10 of the answers are affirmative, only 5 are ...

I can bet that almost everyone has played the game hangman at some point in their life. It's a simple game, someone picks a word and draws a series of lines that corresponds to the number of letters in the word. As you guess letters, each wrong guess gets a body part drawn on a stick figure until either youv'e ...

It's true that there are a lot of games for the iPhone that are simply re-hashes of old games. There's nothing wrong with that, since many of the classic games are fun to play. But it's nice when something original comes along like Subway Shuffle.

I always enjoyed solving mazes as a kid, so I thought that iMaze might be enjoyable on the iPhone. It's a simple concept, just hold your iPhone flat and tilt it to move the ball through the maze. Unfortunately it's not nearly as fun as it sounds.

I'll admit that I used to play D&D back in the day, and thus I still have a bag of many different dice sitting in my closet somewhere. Almost everything you do in the game revolves around the rolling of one or more dice. With all of the modern marvels of today, we need not mess with an entire bag ...

Apache Lander is a game with a very basic concept. You control a helicopter that needs to land safely on the pad below. Your controls are based on the accelerometer, with left and right moving your chopper side to side and tilting forward or backward changes your altitude. So how well does this simple game play? Not so great.

We've heard from Sega's president that he thinks the iPhone is almost as powerful as their Dreamcast. That's great to hear, even though the Dreamcast was laid to rest some time ago. However, John Carmack seems to think that the iPhone is more like the PS2 or Xbox in terms of power.

Just yesterday I mentioned the grim outlook for a mobile version of WoW for the iPhone, and today I see this cool app. No, it's nothing official from Blizzard, however, it looks like it will be a useful tool for those wanting to know details about various characters and such.

Not long ago we heard that former EA big shot Neil Young left the company to found his own company solely dedicated to creating iPhone games. So what has this new company been up to? Well, they have just secured a nice chunk of venture capital from Kleiner Perkins, which if you don't recall, is the force behind Apple's $100 ...
