Use your iPhone as widescreen iPod and WiFi device

Did you know you could activate your iPhone to use as Widescreen iPod and Wifi without contract? You do need to pay a $49.98 one-time fee. You have two options to activate your iPhone and keep it working as an iPod with Wifi.

iPhone

Option one: Faking Bad Credit to bring up GoPhone contracless plan.

During the activation process, you will need to enter your sociual security number. Instead of entering a real social, try entering 999-99-999. It will then trigger GoPhone/Pick Your Plan option (prepaid). Pick the cheapest one available which is $49.98. After activation, you can take out your sim card and use the iPhone as widescreen iPod with wifi. Remember to cancel your prepaid plan.

Option two: Cancel your contract within 30 days after activation.

After your activation, you may cancel your contract without penalty within 30 days. Alex King has posted in his blog that he cancelled his contract and the iPhone still works as widescreen iPod and wifi device.

if you really think about it, the iPhone is a big competitor to the Nokia N800 even without the phone functionality! Price wise, both are relatively the same. Hmm, this will make a great side by side comparison. Ok, I’ll write it up!

If you cancel within three days, you can even forgo the $50 prepay charge.

Wouldn’t you have to give the iPhone back if you cancel service?

I just called a local Apple store and asked what becomes of the iPhone in the event that a contract is cancelled for any reason. The customer service rep explained that some features MIGHT not work because the iPhone would then enter an “unregistered” state. Of course MIGHT being the key word, i asked her to talk to someone who knows FOR SURE what will happen. She left and came back and said everything SHOULD work fine. This time I asked her to speak to her manager or whoever can give me a DEFINITE answer instead of MIGHT and SHOULD. She returned on the line after talking to somebody, and explained that an “unregistered” iPhone WILL still function in all areas other than placing calls, and of course there will be no EDGE service. My GUESS would be that all “unregistered” iPhone will work the same; all functions other than “phone functions” will work. Which in MY mind tells me it doesn’t matter if it’s unregistered because i never got a contract or I cancelled a contract. Any thoughts from anyone on this?
