Over at The Giz, opening the mailbag each day is just like Christmas morning - who knows what goodies there might be in Santa's sack! Today they've been blessed with a video from mobile speech-recognition specialists VoiceSignal, who are flaunting their latest software for Apple's iPhone.
Up until now, talking at the iPhone will get you nowhere: the handset is sullen and unresponsive, a little like a troubled teenager or a drunk stripper. So far VoiceSignal have managed to control music with their software, but the hope is that one day all control of the iPhone will be possible via speech. They themselves describe their full package as such:
"VSuite makes it possible to dial and access these new features (camera’s, mp3 players, etc.) and services (messaging, game and ring tone downloads, etc.) with a single voice command. VoiceMode makes it possible for users to create text messages with their voice, and VSpeak makes it possible for people to have text messages read back to them, even when they are not able to look at the screen. Now VSearch, VoiceSignal’s latest innovation, provides users with free, one-step access to the vast search power of the web from their mobile phones" VoiceSignal
There's no timeline as of yet for a proper release of the software.
