“iPhone 3G S requires a new two year contract with AT&T for qualifying customers.”
Does this mean if I’m only like 4 months into my new 2 year, I can just extend it another 2 years and get the discount?
Yes, you can do an equipment upgrade which requires you to renew your contract for 2 years.
I’m wondering the same thing Phil. I just bought an iPhone 3G in early March. I wonder if I can buy a new one for the $299 price. We’ll see I guess.
Two year contract????
Geez, here in Canada Rogers makes you sign for 3 years.

My understanding: Unless you got your iPhone within 30 days of the day you decide to get another one, you will pay full retail for it. I think it is $499 or $599. If you want to drop the bucks for it, you will still need to extend your contract two years from that date.
I think you can wiggle your way out of your current obligation if you are within the 30 day (unpublished) trial period for any phone from AT&T. Hope this helps.
no, you do not pay full price and have to extend your contract…its one or the other (if upgrading iphones!)
A few months ago, someone mentioned about dropping the data plan and just a 2 year contract on iphone. Do you think AT&T will make that materialized? The $30 plan is just too much. I just want to hookup on Wifi.
Look it

I just bought my 8g iphone last month and I was told that since it was wihin the 30 days of buying it I can get the 16g for what I paid for the 8g. I was in the Att store when another customer came in pissed about the new phone, he had bought his phone in april, and he worked out a deal with the store manager so he could get the new phone too. I think if you go into the store and moan a bit you may be able to work out a deal. I hope this helps.
