TomTom’s turn-by-turn navigation app is one of the most interesting capabilities of Apple iPhone OS 3.0. Both Tomtom’s software app and accompanying car kit were announced, complete with Points Of Interest (POIs) and both 2D and 3D mapping.
Its major features include:
- Portrait and landscape modes.
- The kit will support the iPhone in both orientations.
- The kit will supply power to the iPhone.
- It has a speaker and microphone for hands-free calls.

but will the maps be downloaded to the iPhone or will one have to be connected to a network as with GoogleMaps. I would want to be able to use the GPS and rout-finding out in the boonies far from cellular or wireless signals.
The whole thing will be downloaded from the App store as, is every other app at the moment. This will be a big download but there is no other way to do it. Then the windscreen mount and power stuff is bought from a store.
