Apple announced today in a press release that the act of “improving functionality” of your $600 (or $400 after price drop) device could cause your iPhone to become a really good looking paperweight, should you choose to upgrade to the next firmware version. They also officially stated - clearing up a lot of confusion but not in a way anybody ...

That’s right, Steve Jobs himself is a former hacker of the various AT&T offerings. His target of choice was of the landline variety, but him and Woz still did a pretty good business with their Blue Boxes.
The Blue Boxes were the product they created that allowed you to make free (illegal?) phone calls, it did so by faking some in-band ...

It’s no surprise that as per Apple’s terms and conditions, if you mess with your iPhone, they will both no longer fix it, and they will go ahead and void its warranty and blacklist it from further repair. Third party apps are ok, as long as they aren’t running natively. This one gets the Rumor tag because I have only ...

You read that right, you don’t even have to alter any hardware, firmware, or download any software to do it. It’s a build in glitch with both the voicemail and phone call functions.
The phone call version of the hack is to make or take a call, and then while the call is active open the iPod application and start playing ...

Apparently, if you unlock your iPhone, you lose voicemail functionality. Now you can have it back via one simple step.
Open the Phone app and hit the keypad button. Then you just type in the following: *5005*86*phonenumber#.

That’s right, no more paying for software unlocks via iPhoneSIMFree, now, thanks to the iPhone Dev Team hackers there is at least one way of unlocking your iPhone for free. The program is comically named iUnlock and works more or less the same way as the iPSF hack.
Better yet they are making the current hack open source and passing it ...

Four sites have already gone live retailing the iPhone unlocking. Here in the US we have Wireless Imports, then in Australia there is iPhoneWorldwideUnlock which presumably works worldwide, and they are the cheapest too, then there is 1digitalphone from Germany, and iPhone4arab in Saudi Arabia.
The US retailer is charging $99 with the Australian one charging a mere $50. Other than ...

It doesn’t offer up complete automation as it’s up to you to get the track into AAC format, but after that itll take care of the work. If you remember the ringtone hack was simply changing the file extension, importing it into itunes, and then syncing your iPhone and then viola!
This software takes care of the first two steps for ...

This one is performed without the use of a Turbo SIM, and looks to actually be easier. Plus, the last time I went to the Turbo SIM website, they either ceased selling them or were all sold out.
This method uses a Super SIM module that you can get in dual or single modules for one or two SIM cards at ...

While we love to hear about your attempts at hacking your iPhones, we also love to hear that all your digits are still intact! That's why we'd like all enterprising iPhone modders to pay attention to what happened to Hackint0sh forum member Pipas, during what appears to be an attempt to unlock the handset using the hardware method.
"We were so ...

I suppose that will give Steve something to talk about the day after. So the software unlock has been confirmed by both CNN and Engadget which means it works.
The company says that it will not be selling to individuals, but you can buy licenses in bulk with the lowest number being 50 @ $32 each and the highest number being ...

The iPhone Alley team have been hard at work getting iFuntastic v.3 ready for release, and it's finally gone live. If you don't already know, iFuntastic started off as a simple way to add custom ringtones to your iPhone, but has since evolved into a full file browsing, application installing, wallpaper managing hothouse of general cellular hackery. Now they've added ...
