That’s right, Steve Jobs himself is a former hacker of the various AT&T offerings. His target of choice was of the landline variety, but him and Woz still did a pretty good business with their Blue Boxes.

The Blue Boxes were the product they created that allowed you to make free (illegal?) phone calls, it did so by faking some in-band signals and skipping parts of the switching system. They even sold the boxes to their classmates in college at Berkeley.

This was back in 1971 so it was probably just fun to them, but still, why his Jobs now all of the sudden attacking iPhone hackers? One last nifty tidbit about the Blue Boxes, it is rumored criminal organizations eventually got their hands on a few of these allowing them to make secretive calls for criminal purposes.

Simple. If you come between a man and his money, he’ll get all medevil on your a**…
Ha! Nice, he is saying no to exactly what he did in the past. It is true though that it is different when you own the stuff. He was young and stupid right? He didn’t know any better. Great post, thank you for that.
