How about an ultraportable notebook with Mac OS X Leopard, great battery life and all for around $299? Well, not quite, but jkOnTheRun's Kevin Tofel has been experimenting with ways to access his Mac system on the move via his latest toy: ASUS' Eee. In case you've been out of touch for the past few months (or maybe have your permanent Mac-only filters set to 'high'!) but the Eee is a Linux-powered super compact laptop intended for new users or people looking for a cheap second machine. Kevin has been playing with its ability to connect via VNC to OS X's Screen Sharing - basically a cutesy way of describing VNC - hence this image of what looks like an Eee running Leopard.

Apparently the process is relatively simple, although you'd not know if from ASUS' literature - the "straightforward" label of the Eee obviously precludes talking about the techier capabilities of the device. However the version of Linux installed, Xandros, comes with a VNC client built-in, so it's just a case of getting that to talk to the Mac which, since Tiger, has made Screen Sharing easy.
Kevin's now working on getting his USB 3G modem up and running, so that he's not reliant on WiFi hotspots. If you know anything about modems, head over there because he could do with the help!
