Finally, iPhone 3.0 to get MMS, tethering, copy paste?

Apple have announced a special event on March 17th, where the company will launch the iPhone OS 3.0 Software. As usual, it has triggered a lot of speculation about what might be coming in the new release.

iphonemmsMac Rumors cited Boy Genius Report that claims to have heard two most-awaited features: MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) and tethering:

MMS would finally offer iPhone users the ability to send photos by way of SMS, and tethering would allow you to share your iPhone’s internet connection with your laptop computer. An alleged Steve Jobs email even confirmed that Apple had been working on a thethering solution, so it certainly seems feasible. BoyGeniusReport’s record, however, has been spotty, so we can’t be entirely confident of the report.

Mac Rumors also mentioned:

…a better app-managing SpringBoard (with categories?), a solution to “push” notifications (background tasks?), and, yes… even copy and paste..

Will 3.0 OS be available for the iPhone 3G? I hope so.

Honestly. If Apple doesn’t announce that true, native (send/receive) MMS, AND copy/paste will DEFINITELY be coming in 3.0, I am going back to Blackberry. I may even wait on the Pre. It is astounding that Apple won’t admit or explain why they’ve delayed or purposely omitted MMS and Copy/Paste on the iPhone. I want true MMS. Not some message with a link sent from your iPhone that someone has to click on to open a pic. How is it that a Blackberry can do it on AT&T and not the iPhone???!!!!

I’m pretty sure 3.0 will work with the 3g phone. The original not being supported would be no surprise. But if they drop support for the 3g than they’ll have a mass amount of angry customers. And even still i’m sure they will still do some updating to the original.

  3. I was just looking for this information for a while. After 6 hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your site. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this kind of informative websites in top of the list. Normally the top web sites are full of garbage.
