6.9 million iPhones sold in Q4

Despite the economic downturn, Apple is still doing pretty well for itself. Their Q4 earnings call today revealed that the company sold about 6.9 million iPhones. Want a bit of a comparison? iPhone 3G could reach 5 million sold in Q4

The iPhone 3G has been selling like hot cakes and it seems like it will sell even more in Q4. In fact, it is now estimated that Apple will be shipping 5 million units for Q4, which ends on September 30th. iPhone 3G helped bolster smartphone sales in Q3

Gartner analyzed the numbers for smartphone sales and it looks like the iPhone 3G played a big role in bolstering the market.
