It looks like AT&T won't be selling the iPhone at as many of their locations as we had originally thought. Our previous information told us over 2,000 stores total, which would encompass all Apple stores and most AT&T stores. That may not now be the case.

According to a new memo that has been leaked from AT&T it will only be available on Apple's website, the Apple Store, and select AT&T retail locations.

Before you guys decide to go camp out in front of a store, you might want to make sure that they are actually going to be carrying the phone.

I suspect they will sell the phones in CINGULAR WIRELESS COMPANY OWNED STORE’s….not the Cingular Wireless–Authorized Retailer’s
Yup… I always thought that that was clear!
Aside from looks, the iPhone is a piece of shit in the functionality department….
It cannot find you the nearest susi restaurant, though it claims to even though there is no gps.
A $600 smartphone has a gps reciever in it…
You can see the “real” web, but its cost you like $100 per megabyte. Most $600 smartphones have wifi.
You cant even use bluetooth for what it was mean for….wireless headphones/microphone…
Most $600 smartphones can do that, actually, they support all of the Iphone transfer profiles and the headphone daisychain profile….they also support lan over bt, which is an uncommon feature…
PEOPLE, for $600 you can get an E-ten m700 that:
+Can do everything the iPhone can
+Has real GPS
+Supports 3G
+Has wifi support
+Has a slideout backlit keyboard[wait...should apple have that too]
+Full audio bluetooth profiles that support bluetooth stereo headsets….hey…there is a new on for apple….you dont need a wire for your headset…and 2 people can listen at the same time
+4gb of music on solid and cheap[sd] storage
+You can actually sync it with anything
+quad band support
+Comes unlocked…versus the iphone being locked to ATT for $600
+removable and replaceable battery
+optional car dock so you can use it as a talking navigation system
So there is really no good functional reason in buying an iphone, other than the fact that you wanna blow money at something that looks pretty.
Someone spreading more disinformation huh?
Let’s clear a couple things up. Things that we’ve known all along, if you’ve been really paying attention.
1. It does have full WiFi support.
2. It does have full Bluetooth support. Steve even said you can get a bluetooth headset. I assume it would be full audio, however, I wouldn’t want it. For phone use, sure. For listening to music? No thanks.
3. You don’t need GPS to find a susi (I’m thinking you meant sushi) restaurant near you. Google remembers your location. I don’t have it built into my PowerBook or Dell, but google will tell me where my nearest sushi is.
4. $100 per meg? Like, at&t hasn’t even told us how much it will cost. Until then, we can hold off on that part, which I don’t buy into anyways. More than likely it will be either a total package, or at a minimum an unlimited data plan.
Again, how many times do people have to say, if you are looking for a cheaper and not as pretty way to do what the iPhone does, and want full 3rd party support for applications, and sync with “anything,” and not be locked into at&t, and want a GPS - you should look someplace else. No one has tried to sell the iPhone as that device. No one. Period. So why barge in here and say iPhone sucks because it doesn’t do all that? The people who do want the iPhone will buy one, the ones who want somethign else will have to go elsewhere. That’s the bottom line. The ones who want your device yet buy an iPhone must be ignorant of the facts, and they deserve whatever hard times they get. NO sympathy from the me department.
On the other hand, if you are just wanting an Apple-branded phone with no GPS, no 3G (I don’t care what system it uses), and will sync perfectly with everything that *I* use, and I’m willing to fork over $1500 for it come the 29th, welcome to the world of me! Call it throwing away my money if you must, but I’ll be perfectly happy, and I have the money to throw away at it.
“Proprietary and confidential” were mere suggestions anyways :P
VPA021, you are ill-informed. Walt is correct on all account.

You are incorrect when you say this phone has 3g. One of the things it left out was 3g. BUt is compatible with GSM.
