The Bromine Science and Environmental Forum have recently torn apart Greenpeace’s claims against the iPhone. The forum even went so far as to say that Greenpeace “sensationalized” some of its findings, well go figure, how many members do you think Greenpeace would have if they didn’t sensationalize things?

Greenpeace hates iPhone

The main target in Greenpeace’s report was the content of Bromine, well guess what, that was the main thing in the BSEF’s report as well. More specifically though, the BSEF attacked the fact that Greenpeace was dumb for going off on a tangent about the Bromine when it’s a non-issue, you see, the Bromine in the iPhone is used as a fire retardant around the battery, it is reactive, and once activated, is no longer an environmental threat, it turns to plastic more or less.

So, during the recycling process, heat up the iPhone enough, the bromine will activate, and all will be good. Speaking of the recycling process, the BSEF points out that the iPhone passes all EU regulations, and that under that same law, manufacturers are required to take care of the disposal of printed circuit boards.

They go on the say that many of the other chemicals found in the iPhone are used in many of todays electronics as security/safety components in various ways. On that same note, the BSEF went on to nail Greenpeace for not offering a constructive alternative to for the purpose that the bromine serves. So basically Greenpeace got Bromin0wn3d.
