There's no shortage of instant-messaging options billed as ideal for the iPhone, but up until now unless you've wanted to pay AT&T for an SMS message each way then you've been forced to use a web-based client. It's not ideal - there are limits on what notifications and the like they can give, and it's hardly integrated with the rest of ...

Now that the AT&T legal monkeys have set their sights on software unlocking methods, you may be thinking the hardware alternative is a more tempting one. If that's the case, then this Flickr gallery documenting the stages of the process might make your own attempt more straightforward; after all, there's no such thing as too much preparation when the potential ...

In a twist that literally nobody on planet Earth saw coming, iPhoneUnlocking.com were forced to cancel their unlock software launch on Saturday due to apparent legal threats from AT&T, Apple's telco partner. Releasing a statement on their company blog, doubts were expressed whether the software would ever be allowed to see the light of day:
"After saying they were phoning on ...

The glamorous Stacey Tisdale of CBS News has jumped upon the mini-iPhone bandwagon in their latest video bulletin, reporting that Apple has filed a patent for a "cut down" version of their cellphone supposedly on sale before the end of the year for under $300. There's little indication of whether this is new news sourced by CBS or simply a ...

Feeling rich? No, I mean it, are you feeling really bloody rich? Because if you're desperate to hold a "piece of history" in your hands then feel free to join the bidding frenzy over on eBay where an iPhone that has gone through the hardware unlocking process by the very guy who documented it is, as of writing, up to ...

First the unlocking, then the conspiracy theories. Like guilt-riddled children peeking at their presents on Christmas Eve, anxious bloggers are wondering what electronic spanking Apple may have in mind for anyone who chooses to unlock their handset from AT&T. Cupertino's predicted revenge has so far run the gamut from remote re-locking to death-by-stunted-features.

If you've been waiting for a VOIP client for your iPhone - up until recently made extra-difficult by the fact that third-party software was blocked - then while you wait for the newly-unlocked, hacked & cracked handset to be fully exploited you might want to try Jajah. A web-based VOIP offering, it offers cut-price calls not only through your iPhone ...

While Engadget turned to the iPhoneSIMfree team to liberate their handset, if you don't mind waiting until the weekend there'll be another option for you. UK-based Uniquephones plan on launching their iphoneunlocking.com site on Saturday between noon and 2pm EST, charging you between $25 and $50 for the privilege of sticking whatever SIM you choose into your iPhone.

Like tears from a plump angel, more details about the next-gen iPod nano are gushing out; first up, you'll have to get used to a new name (may I suggest iPod Tubbs?) since that's apparently first on the list of alterations. Memory sizes should be 8GB and 16GB NAND, while the OS will be a complete change to mobile OS ...

Remember that crazy website claiming that they could fully unlock the iPhone, but they just needed another 48 hours to do it? Apparently they've stepped up to the plate and shown just what they can do.
They contacted the guys over at Engadget promising that they could in fact completely unlock the phone. After just a few minutes of installing the ...

Hardly had I finished the previous post, when this rather pleasing iPod Touch mockup caught my eye. Now I know the internet tubes will soon be groaning under the swollen weight of all the MultiTouch imaginings of Apple fanboys (and girls), but we'll give in just this once and post Ravi Patel's mockup of how the Touch might turn out.
Lest ...

Remember that squat little iPod mockup we threw together back when the first next-gen iPod hardware rumours drizzled out? Well, a couple of days ago 9to5Mac.com got their hands on what it was claimed were authentic photos of the next model in Apple's Nano line, only to have the Cupertino legal beagles snap at their mouse cords and demand they pull the ...
