Like tears from a plump angel, more details about the next-gen iPod nano are gushing out; first up, you'll have to get used to a new name (may I suggest iPod Tubbs?) since that's apparently first on the list of alterations. Memory sizes should be 8GB and 16GB NAND, while the OS will be a complete change to mobile OS X as seen on the iPhone.
The big software change is down to functionality outgrowing capabilities; Apple is supposedly shifting from nested menus (which have long been praised as part of the iPod's intuitive interface) in preference of Coverflow, although in the case of the iPod nano Tubbs this will still be controlled by a click-wheel rather than touchscreen.
Rumour has it that Apple are preparing for a big iPod launch event next month to introduce the new range, comprising both this flash-based PMP and the touchscreen-iPod also spotted. Expect credit card servers to go into meltdown as scores of people attempt to upgrade.
