Was unofficial unlock on Apple’s iPhone roadmap all along?

by Chris Davies on August 28, 2007

Over at CNET Blogs, Don "Lips of a Vixen" Reisinger has installed fresh batteries into his ACME Conspiracy Finder and pointed it firmly at the head honchos over at Apple.  His belief: that not only will the company continue to sit on their hands and distract themselves with truffles over the spate of iPhone unlock methods, but that Steve Jobs in fact expected and wanted it to happen all along.   continued »

Installer.app catalogue to swell with free packaging offer

by Chris Davies on August 28, 2007

I should imagine that, as a third-party app programmer, the one thing worse than having your genitals hacked off by ninja badgers would be nobody using your software.  And unfortunately marketing and publicity requires very different brain muscles from those necessary for coding, so it's not enough to assume that where one aptitude goes the other follows.  Thankfully, the guys behind Installer.app - probably the simplest way to load third-party ... continued »

iPhone unlock software on hold after AT&T threat

by Chris Davies on August 27, 2007

In a twist that literally nobody on planet Earth saw coming, iPhoneUnlocking.com were forced to cancel their unlock software launch on Saturday due to apparent legal threats from AT&T, Apple's telco partner.  Releasing a statement on their company blog, doubts were expressed whether the software would ever be allowed to see the light of day: "After saying they were phoning on behalf of AT&T, the law firm presented issues such as ... continued »

CBS lends weight to cut-price iPhone before end of year

by Chris Davies on August 25, 2007

The glamorous Stacey Tisdale of CBS News has jumped upon the mini-iPhone bandwagon in their latest video bulletin, reporting that Apple has filed a patent for a "cut down" version of their cellphone supposedly on sale before the end of the year for under $300.  There's little indication of whether this is new news sourced by CBS or simply a rehashing of the various stories we and the rest of ... continued »
