It was the challenge many hoped would see an increase in availability of unlocked iPhones, but today the courts decided in favour of T-Mobile Germany and gave them permission to continue selling the Apple handset locked to their network. The case - brought by spurned rival Vodafone, who claimed that the exclusivity deal broke anti-competition rules - had resulted in a temporary injunction preventing T-Mobile from locking the iPhone, as well as forcing them to offer up an entirely unlocked and contract-free version.
T-Mobile now say that they're planning to return to their "original sales conditions" for the handset as soon as possible; although not spelt out as such, that could mean the end to the unlocked iPhone altogether. German customers must now take out a 24-month contract if they want to get their hands on the €399 handset, unless they travel to France to buy the unlocked version Orange offer.
