Not only has the iPhone 2.0 software been released a day early for first-gen handset owners, bringing functionality like push email, but it's already been unlocked. The iPhone Dev Team have in fact been working on early builds of Firmware 2.0 since it went into beta testing, and reached an unlock and jailbreak solution before Apple even released the official version.

It seems like you can now download iPhone 2.0 (iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw), according to MacRumors. It's important to understand that this unknown file from Apple's server may brick your iPhone or iPod touch. So make sure to read this knowledge base article in which Apple notes that your iPhone or iPod will be erased in order to perform 2.0 install.

There are probably more than a few of you thinking about selling off your old 2.5G iPhone in order to make some room in your bank account for the new iPhone 3G. Unfortunately you'll discover that there is no good way to securely erase all of your personal data from the phone, not yet at least.

As we hit the 1st birthday of the phone that brought us into a new future, we also prepare for the incoming of a brand new birth in iPhone's life. We are all anxiously awaiting the arrival of iPhone 2.5G's brother, iPhone 3G, but will never forget the times we've shared with the original.

Honlai Technology showed off the QingBar MP101 portable iPhone projector for the iPhone at Computex Taipei 2008. QingBar MP101 is a neat concept but may be too expensive for everyday consumers. It works with current iPhone and iPod hardware so I don't see why it wouldn't work with the iPhone 3G.

Apple has taken the time to generously add a GPS chip to the new iPhone 3G. The chip will be able to be accessed for certain applications by programs on the iPhone, built with the SDK. According to TomTom, they have already got the application to run on an iPhone.
