Business Standard is reporting that Apple will launch the iPhone in India come September this year. Quoting "Apple retail sources", the paper suggests that an exclusive deal for the handset is under discussion, and that the 8GB version will be priced at Rs. 27000-28000 ($680-700). No details on contract obligation have been suggested.

Infineon's S-GOLD3 has seemingly been confirmed as the chipset to be used in Apple's upcoming 3G iPhone, as predicted from examination of the recently released iPhone SDK Beta 3. According to DigiTimes, Chinese paper Economic Daily News has confirmed that United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) have been selected as the foundry that will produce the chip on Infineon's behalf. The chip, PMB8878, will be manufactured on UMC's 65nm line.

There has certainly been no shortage of rumors around the new 3G iPhone. There have been leaked pictures, countless discussions, and an unlimited amount of fuel for the fire. Anything too substantiate these rumors sounds great right about now. Alas, a discussion on the MacTalk Forums Australia started a wave of new rumors.

More next-gen iPhone tidbits today, with latest rumor on the block being from 'industry sources' who believe Apple will release two versions of the 3G iPhone at WWDC 2008, one with 8GB of storage and priced at $399 and another with 16GB priced at $499. Zibri of ZiPhone iPhone tool discovered a reference to a future 3G chipset by Infineon called S-GOLD3, after digging around the newly released iPhone SDK Beta 3. The chipset powering today’s iPhone is S-GOLD2 which lacks 3G support, whereas S-GOLD3 features HSDPA category 8 (7.2 Mbps), higher resolution camera up to 5-megapixels, a 2x speed MMC / SD interface, MPEG/H.263 hardware acceleration and video telephony, streaming, recording and playback.
