There was some speculation about further Google Applications being available on the iPhone when it launches. Thanks to the release of the Safari 3 beta, we now know that Google Docs and Spreadsheets should work on the iPhone.

Google Docs and Spreadsheets on the iPhone

If you check out the Safari 3 beta, you'll be able to see that for the first time, Google Docs and Spreadsheets works on the Apple browser. Now putting that together with the knowledge that Safari will be running a full version of Safari, we'll be able to use the search giant's text and spreadsheet editors.

What makes us worry though is usability of this software. If you look at the picture above, that looks pretty cramped. That's without even putting in an onscreen keyboard. Of course, that's not a real image of the software running on an iPhone, so hopefully they will make these apps fit better.

The iPhone’s screen is big and beautiful, but can you see your self composing a document or work on a spreadsheet? I’d use it for viewing docs / spreadsheets, but not creating. That’s what my macbook pro is for.

Google Maps on the internet will also look bad on the internet right? That’s why they have build an app for it!

I can’t see myself doing it, or ever being in a situation where I would even think about it! Perhaps in my last career, but I’m done working hard in my life anymore. ;-) That means, I only work to buy my toys I want, which means, no “work” when I’m away from work, ergo, no using google apps, among other things, like working overtime, working weekends, etc.

It should read like this “Now putting that together with the knowledge that IPHONE will be running a full version of Safari, we’ll be able to use the search giant’s text and spreadsheet editors”

just my 2cents

Nice catch VPA021. For those doubting the availability of iPhone on Apple’s online store, here is a quote from the latest news release from Apple:

Pricing and Availability
iPhone will be available in the US on June 29, 2007 in a 4GB model for $499 (US) and an 8GB model for $599 (US), and will work with either a PC or Mac®. iPhone will be sold in the US through Apple’s retail and online stores, and through AT&T’s select retail stores.
