Apple awarded patent for mobile security system

Apple has received confirmation that their patent for an anti-theft safeguard for portable electronics has been officially approved. The anti-theft patent describes an “acceleration-based theft detection system.” The system works by tracking the movement of the device over time. In theory, after analyzing movement patterns it will be able to discern between the owner and someone that is trying to thieve their precious device. New Apple Patent hints at a dual-sided multi-touch iPhone Nano?

The Boy Genius comes through again with the discovery of a patent filed by Apple right before January’s Macworld where the iPhone was first introduced to the world, showing a smaller double-sided device. MacNN discovered that Apple has filed a patent application titled Lanyard for handheld electronic device, published on March 8, 2007 by the US Patent & Trademark Office. The gist of the patent relates to lanyards for handheld electronic devices with electronic circuitries integrated into it.
