Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak isn't afraid to criticize the company he helped start. Recently Woz said that he believes Apple has fallen behind in the smartphone market allowing competitors such as Samsung to catch up.

New statistics from Kantar indicate that Apple has regained the top spot in the global smartphone market. Apple fell from the top spot last month as people stop buying the old version of the iPhone with the iPhone 5 set to launch. Kantar's stats show that the iPhone 5 is pushed Apple back to the top.

One of the things that the iOS 5.0.1 update was supposed to fix was the battery issues some users are seeing. There are a bunch of users on the Apple support forums complaining that the issue is no better and some claim its worse.

ComScore has offered up data on the dominance of certain smartphone OS' on a state-by-state level. It appears that most of the iOS dominance is in the north and east parts of the US with most middle and southern states leaning towards Android.

Two new patent applications have surfaced that Apple filed more recently than most we see. The apps show stylus pens for the iPhone and iPad with one that can shoot whatever you write on any surface to the iPhone or iPad.

Verizon is saying that the iPhone on its network will be able to get the iOS 5 update OTA. Generally, the only way to get an update to an iPhone is to connect to a computer and update via a USB cable from iTunes. I wonder if AT&T will get wireless updates too.
