It took Apple only nine months to reach 1 billion application downloads mark, now the Cupertino-based company has announced that iPhone users have downloaded more than 1.5 billion applications from the App Store. Supported by more than 100,000 developers, the revolutionary App Store now has more than 65,000 apps.

Nokia has lost its overall market share leadership in the worldwide smartphone segment to Apple in mobile ads share, BNET Technology reports. According to statistics from AdMob, Apple's iPhone received 49 percent of ad traffic in May, compared with 32 percent for Nokia.

AT&T have released a free iPhone and iPod touch application that allows U-verse subscribers control their DVR systems remotely. The app, U-verse TV Mobile Remote Access, can display program listings and full descriptions of individual shows, as well as allow users to schedule program or series recordings.

Apple have again inflamed the App Store censorship debate, by rejecting an ebook reader application through which it was possible to search for - and view - classic text The Kama Sutra. The app, Eucalyptus, shows text-only versions of out-of-copyright books from the Project Gutenberg archive.

Bump just landed on the App Store for a month, but it already secured a place in iPhone app history: became the one billionth download on Thursday when a Connecticut teenager downloaded the free app.

Apple on Friday revealed that Connor Mulcahey, a 13 year-old from Weston, Connecticut, as the winner of its billion app countdown contest. He downloaded Bump (which allows users to send contact information between iPhones) --the App Store's billionth download, to his iPhone.

Yeah, the countdown has just begun. Apple posted a Web page on counting down to the one billion iPhone app downloaded milestone. Apple themselves have sold 17 million iPhones last month.
