Downgrade 1.1.1 iPhone firmware instructions

Posted on 30 September 2007 by

If you went ahead an installed 1.1.1 only to end up with a Jonathan Ive-designed paperweight at the end of it, you've got a couple of choices: go to your nearest Apple store, tail between your legs, and hope they take pity on you and fix your iPhone somehow, or turn to your friendly neighbourhood hack-community and see what functionality ... continued »

iPhone 1.1.1 full rundown including hidden features

Posted on 30 September 2007 by

With the tail end of Sunday in sight, I'd imagine quite a few iPhone owners have been spending the weekend getting to grips with Apple's 1.1.1 firmware upgrade, downloading the 152.3mb file and bringing their shiny handset up to Steve-speed.  The headline feature is of course the iTunes WiFi Store, but there are plenty of other tweaks and improvements that ... continued »

DevTeam: Apple didn’t have to brick unlocked iPhones

Posted on 28 September 2007 by

Little comfort to those who face bricking their unlocked iPhones or languishing on old firmware forever, but the iPhone DevTeam have been pretty unequivocal at accusing Apple of taking the, let's say, AT&T pleasing option when it comes to constructing their upgrade.  As they told Gizmodo: "Apple has multiple ways of upgrading the [firmware of the] baseband [radio chip] without committing ... continued »

Rumor: So your bricked your iPhone, what next?

Posted on 28 September 2007 by

Well, you can wait for the iPhone Dev Team to come up with a solution, and you know they will, they are the gods of the iPhone, I really don’t see why Apple doesn’t just put them on payroll and save us all the hassle. Or, you can lie. Here is the deal, Apple’s latest firmware somehow changes the IMEI of ... continued »

Make your own iFlash camera flash for the iPhone

Posted on 28 September 2007 by

So maybe it’s less of a flash, and more of a camera light, as there doesn’t appear to be any flashing mechanism. There is, however a busted iPod charger, and some LEDs involved. It looks like basically he put 4 LEDs and a switch inline with the power output pins of the iPhones dock connector. Which means you can leave it ... continued »

Update bricks unlocked iPhones

Posted on 27 September 2007 by

Apple's 1.1.1 iPhone update is out, and while there's a healthy list of new functionality and tweaks, all eyes are still on the unlock situation.  After Apple's warnings (which some took as threats) that hacked iPhones could potentially turn into expensive, slender bricks after the update process, owners of modded handsets scurried desperately to find ways to restore authenticity to their ... continued »

iPhone update 1.1.1 released

Posted on 27 September 2007 by

So here's the shark in the mod-happy waters; Apple has released the 1.1.1 iPhone update and is busy trumpeting the new features - there's even a happy little video by their sombre-clothed Bob to explain just what differences you'll notice.  Functionality-wise there are no massive surprises (still no Flash, sadly, and they've not revealed a hidden 3G chip), but the WiFi ... continued »

iPhone Dev team counter’s Apple’s threats with a promised solution

Posted on 27 September 2007 by

They also marched on to the tune that Apple is being far too restrictive. They said that if the number of downloads of just the iPhone Dev teams unlocking software are any inclination, then several hundred thousand people are running around with unlocked phones. I would hate to be working at the Genius Bar the day after the next iPhone ... continued »

Breast Cancer Research Foundation selling custom iPod Shuffle package at Target

Posted on 27 September 2007 by

The package obviously has a bright pink shuffle inside, but it also has a $15 iTunes card and what looks like some information about the organization. I love this time of year, when all the pink gadgets start coming out, because it means you can buy yourself a cool new gadget or toy, and feel good knowing that part of ... continued »

Apple iPhone is really late to the Apple expo 2007 in Paris, France

Posted on 27 September 2007 by

By really late, I actually mean, it hasn’t shown up at all. Nor has Steve Jobs. This doesn’t bode well for France Telecom (the owners of Orange) who stated a while back that they had already come to an agreement with Apple and they would be carrying the iPhone. The show lasts from the 25th to the 29th, so maybe Steve ... continued »

Rumor: Apple releasing slate touchscreen device

Posted on 26 September 2007 by

Could it be another go at the Newton? Could it be My iTablet? Or could it be a MacBook Touch? Maybe an Apple UMPC? Right now no one knows for sure, what is known is that there are reports of a touchscreen device that is larger than the iPhone with a bigger, better, multi-touch touchscreen. What is also known is that ... continued »

Even WebbAlert Called out Apple on their anti-iPhone hacking status

Posted on 26 September 2007 by

Check the video below from 1:30-3:00 minutes. Its all about Apple and their statement about unlocking iPhones causing irreparable damage and possibly bricking them with the next update. They even threw in the bit about Steve and Woz being old time hackers of AT&T but said that the believed 10-30% Apple gets from the iPhone contracts makes it worth their while ... continued »
