Vodafone retail staff have been alerted that the iPhone 3G 16GB has apparently been classified as End Of Life (EOL), with stock accordingly limited. The news comes courtesy of supplier Brighthand, who warn that there is only "a few weeks stock available" of the Apple smartphone.

It has been revealed the prices that Vodafone in Italy will sell the iPhone 3G for without a new agreement. According to the Vodafone Italy iPhone 3G web site, the device will sell for €499/€569 ($773/$881) for the 8GB/16GB models. Vodafone have issued a short press release confirming that they will be selling the iPhone in ten markets later on this year. These will include Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey. Previous sources had tipped the Indian deal, but this is a significant step for the carrier overall.

Business Standard is reporting that Apple will launch the iPhone in India come September this year. Quoting "Apple retail sources", the paper suggests that an exclusive deal for the handset is under discussion, and that the 8GB version will be priced at Rs. 27000-28000 ($680-700). No details on contract obligation have been suggested.

Is Vodafone really that cocky that they’d already start talking about negotiations for a deal with Apple upon the release of a 3G version? Well I guess they are as their CEO is quoted saying they would “absolutely” deal with Apple to carry the 3G version of the handset.
