Native iPhone game wins Iron Coder 2nd prize

The iPhone gaming continues apace, with C-4 Iron Coder silver prize winners Lucas Newman and Adam Betts developing the handset's first third-party native leisure app.  Lights Off is a version of a classic puzzle game, which oddly enough I owned myself (in the shape of a standalone handheld) when I was younger.   continued »

New HTC Shift Released

HTC has finally released its upcoming PDA/UMPC entitled the shift. Well, they have at least released it in Korea. The HTC shift is quite revolutionary, whereas up until now, if you wanted to do even the most basic of functions on your UMPC you had to fully power it on and begin sucking away at that battery, with the Shift, this is not the case. Skype on the iPhone!

It's not the first way to get Skype up and running on your iPhone, but it promises to be the most elegant (that is, until Skype themselves come up with a client): Shape Services have released a beta of their IM+ for Skype software that is compatible with any Java browser, including Apple's cellphone.  Right now the site is obviously getting hammered by early-adopters, and is refusing to play ball, ... continued »

Bluetooth tweak brings streaming iPhone music

While still not excusing Apple in any way, shape or form from the lamentable absence of A2DP stereo Bluetooth from the iPhone, there's at least a hack of sorts to play music and the audio track from a video through your wireless headset.  Don't get your hopes up too much, though; it's a partial solution at best.   continued »

Orange strong player in French iPhone launch

Doom reaches iPhone, classic gamers (semi) rejoice

There's a body of thought that a gadget just isn't a true key player in the tech world if it can't be coaxed into playing Doom.  The id Software classic has been pressed into service on cellphones, scientific calculators and all manner of unusual hardware, and it was only a matter of time before someone developed a version for the iPhone.   continued »

If you're feeling smug with yourself for having built a papercraft iPhone or even constructed an iPhone skin, think again.  While the handset in the photo below may look like a normal Jesus Phone, in actual fact it's a cunning facsimile made from wood, hammered metal and plastic.    continued »
