Apple iPhone will be available at 2,000 retail stores in June

So you might be wondering how many stores will be carrying the iPhone when it comes out. I think it’s been pretty safe to say that all of the Apple stores will be carrying the iPhone, but just how many AT&T stores will have the phone stocked at release?

Apple Store

According to a meeting Apple had with Bear Stearns analyst Andrew Neff that it will be carried at 2,000 retail outlets when it is launched in June. So if we break that down, we’ll see the iPhone at all 160 Apple stores, and 1840 AT&T stores. Last time I checked, AT&T only had roughly 2,000 stores. So it’s safe to say that a store near you will be carrying it.

Now if they would just tell us how many units will be available per store we could get a good estimate of how likely people are going to be to get their hands on one.

I’m beginning to wonder if Apple/AT&T is ever going to announce how much per month the plans are going to be and when it will go on sale.

  2. Hopefully with the FCC approval yesterday we will see a lot more details emerge. We’ll be sure to update you if we hear of any new plans from AT&T targeted toward iPhone users.

  3. Lets say each store gets 15 iphones x 2,000 outlets, we’ll most likely see 30,000 iPhones on the streets of America! Hot damn… you guys think that’s a pretty accurate number?

  4. PoitNarf says:

I’d say 100+ at each of the Apple stores at a minimum, with less at the AT&T stores.

  5. Actually I think you’re off by quite a bit. You’re forgetting online sales ;)

I would hope that they would offer an equal number of phones online and in-store. So if your guess is 30,000 just in the stores, we could see as many as 60,000!

  6. Man, I really hope you’re right PoitNarf. It would only be logical to see more of them at the Apple store.

  7. 30,000 to 60,000 units is a drop in the bucket…maybe 100,000?

This is the question that I want to see answered.

  9. TQuila, I don’t think the plans on the iPhone will be that different from AT&T’s existing plans for minutes and data.

  10. TQuila says:

Well, their PDA Max unlimited data plan (39.99) which seems most appropriate for the iPhone would need to be reduced to, say, 19.99 (or less) to take into account that over 50% of our data will come from WIFI. To not do so, IMHO, would be exploitive.

  11. no such luck. they require even the treo 680 to be on the $39.99 plan

Vincent Nguyen said “no such luck. they require even the treo 680 to be on the $39.99 plan”

Do you think they will charge MORE than that for data with the iPhone?

  13. I don’t see why they would? IMO if nothing else it should be lower! Why? Because the iPhone won’t be taking advantage of AT&T’s HSDPA network. If nothing else, the data plan should be $19.99 per month.
