iPhone Finder project brings file explorer to handset

by Chris Davies on August 13, 2007

It's looking like one of the primary reasons those tech-lovers who haven't bought an iPhone give - that the handset doesn't give up access to its innards with such WM-mainstays as a file explorer - are growing less and less relevant.  The iPhone Finder project, under the watchful eye of KDBDallas, is working on an explorer program based on the iPhoneNES' ROM viewer.   continued »

iPhone video conferencing hack wins C-4 developer award

by Chris Davies on August 13, 2007

Over the weekend the hackers, tweakers and general-fiddlers gathered together at the C-4 developer conference and voted for the most creative iPhone hack as part of the "Iron Coder Live" contest.  The rules demand that the hack be a short-term project, but that didn't stop this year's winners - Glen and Ken Aspeslagh - from setting their sights high.  They came up with a two-way videoconferencing app for the iPhone, ... continued »

iPhone MultiTouch Developers had same hardware failures as Apple

by Chris Davies on August 13, 2007

We're big fans of multi-touch interfaces and touchscreens in general here at MY iTablet, and you might recall some of the Onyx features our sister-site SlashGear ran back when the Synaptics concept was wowing iPhone-naive audiences.  Which makes it all the more disappointing to hear about those iPhone owners suffering dodgy, temperamental screens.  Now MarketWatch are reporting that the Finnish company Apple bought the international property rights for the MultiTouch Touchscreen ... continued »

Denver man “whittles” thumbs to ease iPhone use

by Chris Davies on August 10, 2007

Edit: Looks like my cynicism was warranted.  The story's a hoax, and everyone's fingers & thumbs are unchanged.  Hoorah for living as nature intended. Having not seen photos of the supposed end-result, I'm dubious about the story, but The North Denver News is reporting that Denver resident Thomas Martel has, so frustrated with inaccurate touchscreen prodding, had his thumbs surgically "whittled" so that they're more precise for small on-screen buttons. continued »

HTC roadmap reveals P6550 ‘Sedna’ enterprise handset

by Chris Davies on August 9, 2007

Much as I hate to use the phrase, this new HTC smartphone is bound to be heralded by some as an "iPhone killer".  Hardware-wise it's quite the beast; the P6550 'Sedna' packs a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen, Windows Mobile 6.0, quad-band GSM as well as HSDPA and WiFi into a vaguely Touch-like chassis.   continued »

Partial touchscreen failure leads to useless iPhones

by Chris Davies on August 9, 2007

Do you have an iPhone to hand?  Try fingering the screen near the top or the bottom of the device; is it responding as it should?  If not, you might be one of a seemingly growing number of owners having issues with MultiTouch; a band of touchscreen inactivity, half an inch from either the top or bottom of the panel, which renders some controls inaccessible and can even grow to ... continued »

Pre-Pay iPhone contract crisis costs owner his account

by Chris Davies on August 9, 2007

The perils of iPhone post-pay contract law are something we've dipped metaphorical toes into before, but today's tale of woe concerns that other side of the credit-check tracks: pre-pay AT&T accounts.  Merry iPhone owner 'JD' had some screen issues with his handset and so returned it to Apple to be fixed; his iPhone subsequently got lost, and the replacement they provided, to cut a long story short, refused to work ... continued »
