Box Office is a pretty nifty little app. It’s free, for starters, and it lets you look up movies that are currently playing in your area. You can get movie times and reviews. It’s convenient and works great. Well, at least it did. Box Office was yanked from the App Store with no reason provided to the developer and that’s left many wondering if Apple even has developer relations reps to deal with this sort of problem.
The developer was left in the dark on Friday and he still has no idea why Box Office was removed.
If you already have Box Office on your phone, it still works. However, it remains a mystery why a free, seemingly harmless app would be removed in the first place. Security bug, perhaps?
All the focus on Friday was on the removal of the tethering app, NetShare. Maybe now that the new week has started we’ll get some answers.

I use this app… the price is right, and it works great…
the whole apple application store market dynamic is so very young… which is weird, it’s just a closed “share-ware” system in my opinion
Maybe it was pulled because someone is developing a similar app that will not be free and will therefore bring Apple revenue.
I agree with Jody. The people at Apple are dicks.
My copy of BoxOffice stopped working after I installed the 2.0.1 iPhone update.
It starts, then crashes. Perhaps that is why it was pulled.
The name ‘Box Office’ was a trademark infringement and he is having to change the name of it. If i’m not mistaken he’s going with ‘Now Playing’ for the new name of the app (with new logo and such) but it hasn’t hit the store yet.

Mine works just fine after the 2.0.1 update.
the bug that rick is referring to is related to syncing and likely not a fault of box office
I think the problem was that box office worked on 3G and wifi. And Apple “wants” these apps to work only on wifi to help ATT reduce it’s network traffic ,other similar apps work only on wifi.
Going by current standards think I will have to jailbreak my iPhone sooner than I earlier anticipated.
I was updating the program (before the release of firmware 2.1 and it is now called “Now Playing”) and my iTunes sync hung. When I tried to restart it, it just sat like a brick with the apple logo showing. I ended up having to get it replaced at an Apple store. 2 weeks later I reinstalled the app (via Edge network), to my disbelief (with firmware 2.1 installed) my iphone again ended in the same fate. 1 iPhone, I wouldn’t have thought anything of it, but 2 iphones killed? idk.
This postisn’t actually opening up for me, I tried to email you. Could you get back to me about this.
i love to watch movies that made it to the box office, they are usually great movies with good story *”
