iPhones in space, Largan optics says Apple bought 8MP lenses, iOS 5 WiFi Sync drama

A pair of iPhone smartphones are set to go into space on the final space shuttle mission running an app called SpaceLabs for iOS. The crew of the shuttle will use the iPhones and the app for experiments while in orbit.

The CEO of a lens maker for smartphones and tablets called Largan has said Apple is buying 8MP lenses from it. This reinforces the rumor that the next iPhone will have an 8MP camera.

There are some allegations going around that Apple stole the WiFi Sync feature for iOS 5 from an app rejected last year. Apple rejected the WiFi Sync app from developer Greg Hughes and now is using the same name and a logo that looks nearly identical for iOS 5′s feature.

  1. Gary says:

What else would you call a feature that syncs over Wifi? Wink? SiFi?
It’s a wireless device. Eventually the feature was going to appear.

I think the logo is pretty similar to the Apple MobileMe Sync icon and the Apple WiFi icon.

8MP would be nice. I’d like a slightly better front facing camera with a light. And this would just be software: when recording video, be able to switch from the front to the back camera (and vise versa). Maybe an app does it, but I can’t find it.
