iPhone rumor: Hon Hai contracted to build “more advanced iPhone”

more advanced iPhoneCNN Money has reported that some person familiar with the situation, told Dow Jones Newswire that Hon Hai will be the folks assembling what they’re referring to as a more advanced version of the first-gen iPhone. The unnamed source stated Hon Hai scored the exclusive contract from Apple. Unfortunately, the source declined to provide more details.

In case you’re wondering how much more advance the iPhone can really get. Lets just say at the moment it sorely lack 3G, integrated GPS as well as the not so-advance feature such as copy and paste. Well, the last one is an OS feature that doesn’t require new hardware – I just thought it’s important to throw in there.

Everyone from bloggers to tech analyst predicts the second coming of the 3G-iPhone sometime this year. However, no one really knows for sure except for Senior Jobs. The second-generation iPhone may hit as early as May, according to some analysts. My money is on late June.

In other news…remember that article I wrote about Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney saying that Apple had ordered a second round of 10 million iPhones, based on rumors he’d heard from Asia? Well my friends, his boss Bob Hafner says Gartner has no idea whether Apple placed an order – according to InformationWeek.

Gartner doesn’t know whether Apple has actually placed an order for 3G iPhones, but the researcher does believe the next version of the touch-screen smartphone will have those high-speed capabilities. “If Apple was to place an order, then 10 million would be a reasonable number,” Hafner said. “And we absolutely believe that in the next-generation iPhone, 3G will be there.”

“We have not got confirmation that an order had been placed,” Hafner said.

Who needs to read MacRumors or trashy rumor blogs when you can get shitty rumors right from an analyst (that’s right Dulaney, my fingers are pointing right at’cha).

nice dig at the end. i get confused when i read about a company like Bank of America making predictions on Apple rumors. maybe they have the inside track, maybe not. on the other hand, the whole financial industry is essentially based on speculation — cf. the current credit/mortgage meltdown, which basically involved hundreds of millions of people spending money they didn’t have.
