Apple just released the iPhone Firmware 1.01 security update that plugs various holes in Safari. This is only a security update with no new features that I can find. On the plus side, it will make your iPhone much more secure.
Remember that you must sync your iPhone via iTunes in order to get the update. Apple noted that the iPhone update would not show up in the Software Update on your Mac.
Uh-oh. I just ran the update and seems like there’s trouble in paradise. I got the following error below, leaving the iPhone in recovery mode. This resulted in a full restore and update. SO MAKE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR iPhone FIRST!
Anyone else run into the same problem?

yes, I had to restore. taking quite a while, but is giving me time to read other’s observations to the fixes for me to try when its done. I kinda guessed that a hack would create a problem for an upgrade. Maybe a future upgrade will include some of the thing iFuntastic does. Love having more control over my wonderous little device.
Everything went alright for me. It did take a while to load the new firmware, but all was well.
now edge can’t connect..my visual voicemail is empty and I can’t connect to a wifi connection either. crap!
ok, reset network settings…iphone rebooted. all is right with the world again. everything works. whew
that’s odd, I can connect to wifi no problem. My visual voicemail restored no problem and EDGE connects fine.
Everything went smooth for me. Scrolling in ipod mode seems a bit more fluid to me now. Although it could be my imagination.
This totally sucks Vincent. How in the world can apple allow this phone NOT to show a calendar invite in the inbox? Yes I know I cant accept invites BUT at least I should know it was sent!!!

All went well here, no problems. Somewhere someone mentioned that Mail downloaded all mail on his server after the update. Mine only downloaded what had not already been downloaded. EDGE seems faster? WIFI & voicemail OK.
Not a problem here…. installed with absolutely no complications…sure its not the update I was hoping for (iChat, stereo bluetooth, MS Office stuff) but Im sure this was just a test to make sure the updating process worked… Well it did for me anyway….
Mine went without a hitch. Took a few minutes. All is well. Now, if only they’d give me an eBook reader…

NP now… just a longer than anticipated update and an extra 91mb download on top of the 7.1mb update… now to see if there are any changes to the software that I can notice!
OK, this is interesting… when all that was done and all my stuff was synced back, I seem to have much more room on my iPhone… previously I had about 1/2gb left, now I have over 3gb! ??? seems odd… but everything is there. WAIT!!! all my photos that I had on the iPhone DID NOT COME BACK!! although I had put them all in iPhoto so I have them, the originals (Which I kept on the iPhone) are no longer there… Make sure you download all photos… as I would hate to see anyone lose their photos!
acdaddy – if you had the 91mb download its because you also downloaded the restore software and not just the update… your iPhone did a system restore in addition to the update. check in iTunes to make sure you have your photos folder checked for syncing, thats probably why you didnt get them back after the restore/update…..
Apple Firmware 1.0.1(1C25) – Updated 4GB iPhone without an issue.
I got the same error but my wife didn’t. I think that this is due to the fact that I used iFuntastic on my phone and not hers. Did any of you do the same?
Now I can install anymore ringtones with iFuntastic….says that it’s unable to “jailbreak” the phone. THIS SUCKS!! haha
My 8G Iphone wouldn’t connect to my wifi after my upgrade. Had to do a full restore. Takes for ever and then you have to sync all over again.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REMOVE/ DOWNLOAD/ BACK UP THE FIRMWARE FOR THE IPHONE. I WANT TO TAKE IT OFF. I HAVE A FIRMWARE ON MY IPHONE THAT CAN USED ANY SIMCARD. WELL ANY AT&T OR CINGULAR SIM. WITH OUT ACTIVATING WITH ITUNES. JUST PUT YOUR SIM IN THE IPHONE AND GO THATS THAT. NO HACKS . THE FIRMWARE ITS FORM APPLE IT WAS NEVER TO GET TO ANYONE OTHER THAN APPLE BUT I HAVE IT ON MY IPHONE AND YOU CAN TOO I JUST DONT KNOW HOW TO TAKE IT OFF TO SHARE IT ONLINE PLEASE HELP ASAP THANKS
