How will the iPhone charge?

This is a question that I haven’t really heard people asking. But those that have are asking it in a fearful tone. They’re wondering if they are going to have to carry around a laptop just so they can charge their iPhone via USB. The good news is that companies are coming out of the woodwork to produce iPhone chargers. This tells us a couple things, first that the phone will have a dedicated charger. Second, if people are already making accessories for a phone that isn’t due out for another six months, just imagine how many different accessories we’re going to have at launch!

As I understand it, the iPhone will charge the same way that an iPod charges. Thus, any iPod charger will work with the iPhone and there are plenty of chargers out there for the iPod.

  2. I wonder if the iPhone share the same battery as the latest iPod.

The iPod adapter that is already out there is the same one that will connect to the iPhone. (NICE) There are car chargers, wall chargers, iGo adapters, etc. the list goes on and on like the Forest Gump Shrimp segment. Good work again Steve.

I do like the fact that they share the same connector. I remember Palm went through many iterations of the connector prior to settling down on one. It was madness for 3-party vendors, not to mention customers having to ditch their “old” accessories each time they upgrade to a new device. Good going Apple.

This question reminds me of when the firt-generation iMacs were announced and only had USB ports. People feared there wouldn’t be any accessories, printers, keyboards, etc… But when they finally shipped every Mac catalog had USB-everything for the iMac. The iPhone will have the same effectm there’ll be more cases, chargers, styli (yup someone will make one – betcha a dollar) and silicon protectors than we’ll want to be bothered with. Worse case senario you’re current iPod chargers will work flawlessly with the iPhone and you won’t have to invest more money .
