FileMaker launched the portable version of its personal database application for the Mac, Bento, for iPhone and iPod touch, allowing users to organize all the details of a busy schedule and activity. The new software [iTunes link] is now available for download for US$4.99 from the Apple App Store.
With this app, you can:
- Start adding information into any of 25 pre-designed templates.
- Tap to call a contact, view a Web site, send an email or display a map all while in a Bento library or collection.
- Manage anything from contacts and club members to projects, parties, medical bills and vehicle maintenance.
- View libraries and collections, create new records, edit details, sort data, modify forms.
- Select from 15 field types including text, numbers, choice, checkbox, media, time, date, durations, currency, rating, address, phone number, email, URL and IM Account.

The standalone application (off course, it also synchronizes wirelessly with Bento 2.0v4 for Mac), works with existing iPhone apps such as Contacts, Safari, Phone Dialing, Mail and Google Maps.

I purchased Bento for the Iphone and I think it’s a good start, however I do have a few concerns :
1. The data is not secured in anyway.
2. It only seems to sync with the Mac and not the PC.
3. No integration with FileMaker Pro.
I think that if FileMaker addresses these issues they would have a stellar product. I’m going to try FMTouch which I saw posted on another blog. It seems that FMTouch can sync with both the Mac and Windows.
