False iPhone release date leaving to be iPhone owners in tears

News Flash 6/3/2007:

The stunt pulled by MPhone.net is inexcusable. The online cell phone retailer claimed that due to a technical error, which lead MPhone webmaster to inadvertently post availability of the Apple iPhone in March.

mphoneiphone.jpg

Harry Novick, Sr. Site Manager for MPhone had this to say about the incident, No one could believe how quickly the information spread. While the error was contained within 24 hours, the misinformation traveled like wildfire across the web. There was a security breach; MPhone has no agreement with Cingular phones or any other carrier to carry the iPhone at this time. This was not meant to be released.”

[Vincent's take] This is a deliberate act on MPhone’s part in attempt to drive traffic to the company’s website.  It’s my recommendation not to do business with such company.  I cannot stomach the fact that the company was so proud of this action, they’ve even released a press release pouring salt onto open wounds of disappointing customers: “iPhone fans flocked to the MPhone site, only to be disappointed.”

for the record, as vincent stated before

“the iPhone will ONLY be available at Apple retail outlets and Cingular/AT&T stores. You should expect to pay $499 for the 4GB and $599 for the 8GB…”

    Sorry Vincent
But people are allowed to make mistakes, the same thing people could claim about you, that you are banning sites and calling customers not to buy from certain sites just to drive traffic to yours.

Your site has affiliate links, Adsense etc. more traffic to your site that’s caused by controversy the more you earn. Mphone could have been an honest mistake or a brilliant marketing gimmick.
Banning one site in order to drive traffic to yours is even worth.

You would probably remove my comment, but know this, wherever your opinion about this topic will rise i will post this comment again and again, in order to be fair to readers out there.

  3. Hi Toby, welcome to My iPhone. No, I won’t delete your comment – because everyone deserves to defend their actions or have some say in their actions.

[Toby] But people are allowed to make mistakes, the same thing people could claim about you, that you are banning sites and calling customers not to buy from certain sites just to drive traffic to yours.

[Vincent] We can split hairs on what’s considered a mistake – so I won’t get into that. However, it’s worth noting that My iPhone is to inform visitors. It’s a common practices to include sponsors and ads to support the operational costs involved. There is no trickery to bringing customers into My iPhone.

[Toby] Mphone could have been an honest mistake or a brilliant marketing gimmick.

[Vincent] Brilliant marketing gimmick? Hardly. It’s idiotic and will lead to potential customers mistrusting your company.

[Tobtyy] Banning one site in order to drive traffic to yours is even worth.

[Vincent] I have no power to ban any site, only to warn visitors of your blatant gimmick to get them to visit your site. And even if I can ban MPhone, how would that help drive traffic to My iPhone?

One last note – the image you released with the big DELAY on it is false. Being delayed implies you have some sort of agreement with Apple/Cingular. Another blatant lie!

If I were your boss, you’d have been fired on the spot.

there are plenty of online retailer – I’ll never shop at mphone… this is no way to treat customers.

  5. Toby says:

Again Vincent you are doing it.
I do not work at Mphone nor shop there. I don’t live in the US. I just love the new iPhone and was looking for info about it.
But what I don’t like is misleading people.
Again you are misleading people by bringing me into the argument as their employee in order to take away the credibility of my claim.
You will probably respond and spin it in a way that I’m am defensive… well so be it, but my dear friend for all us iPhone lovers, conspiracy theory’s, and site banning is not what we come to read about.

    Great Day

    and although we argued

    iPhone Rocks

  6. You’re right, it was wrong of me to assumed you work for MPhone (wink-wink).

Again, you keep using the term “banning”. I have no power to ban any sites – other than recommend to our visitors to watch out for unethical actions from such company.

Toby, there are a long list of iPhone sites on the net. We also own a site called http://www.iphonetopsite.com – it lists over 70 iPhone sites. Perhaps you will find a more suitable site from that list.

  7. Toby says:

Dear Vince ( If I may call you that – after we are cool :)

Great job on the blog and on your store I just visited it.
(You drove traffic to your site as I claimed (wink wink)

But seriously when the time comes ( hopefully ASAP)
I will visit once again your store, and to be fair also Mphone

And may the best store win.

it’s all about the price ( wink wink )

All I have to figure out now is how to get it shipped to my home country
by us it arrives only in a year and a half.

Got to run… nice chatting to you.

    Good luck with your store

And may the best store win :-)
