Everyone wants to make a piece of the iPhone

With the growing popularity of the unreleased iPhone it is likely that Apple will be able to come close to their mark of 8 million units sold in 2008. We know that if they do, Apple will gain a lot of revenue. But what about the companies that make the individual components that go into the iPhone?

Apple will turn its back on many component manufacturers.

The Times did an in-depth report on the stiff competition between component manufacturers to get their product into the iPhone. Obviously, securing a contract on the iPhone would be a good source of revenue for any manufacturer. But a large reason that companies are so desperate to get their components into the iPhone is the prestige of being associated with the product.

Some of the companies that are still trying to edge their way into the iPhone are: Hon Hai, Quanta, Inventec, Asustek, Intel, CSR, Catcher Technology, Broadcom, Marvell and Wolfson. Looking over some of these names it makes you wonder what possible changes we could see when the iPhone is released.
