Goldman: 12-inch ultraportable MacBook ‘weeks away’

Posted on 06 December 2007 by

Apple may not comment on rumors and speculation, but even they would likely agree that Jim Goldman may have just scuppered at least part of their holiday season profits.  The CNBC writer quotes "a very good source of mine with good connections to Apple's Asian manufacturing partners" in suggesting that the Cupertino-based company will be releasing the new 3G iPhone by May ... continued »

LED backlight deals point to 13.3-inch Apple ultraportable

Posted on 04 December 2007 by

Right now you could scrawl "ultraportable" with a sharpie on an apple in your local grocery store, and before you got to the checkout there'd be analysts, journalists and the generally hopeful clustering around begging for a super-compact notebook from Cupertino's most famous manufacturer.  The rumor-mill frots its way into a greasy climax today with word that Kenmos Technology and ... continued »

Upcoming MacBook ultraportable to have Solid-State Drive?

Posted on 12 November 2007 by

As far as I'm aware, our boy Vincent has never been described as psychic but with his trials of a 64GB Samsung SSD NAND drive in a MacBook Pro over at SlashGear it could be that he's pre-empted Apple's latest laptop move.  AppleInsider quote analyst Gene Munster who has highlighted the solid-state drive as a likely candidate for inclusion in ... continued »

Automatic file transfers from iPhone to Mac

Posted on 02 November 2007 by

Like vanilla-flavored cheese I'm just plain stupid when it comes to programming, which is why I'm so impressed by TUAW's Erica Sadun.  She's come up with a really useful application designed to make file swapping and archiving simple; it sits on your Mac desktop and then grabs a copy of image files you send from your iPhone.   continued »

Apple patent shape-shifting MultiTouch keyboard

Posted on 31 October 2007 by

Attempts to change the venerable keyboard are usually met with failure - despite promising claims of productivity benefits, there's often too great a pay-off for users used to the traditional QWERTY 'board - but if anyone can encourage us to upgrade, perhaps it's Apple.  Their latest patent describes a MultiTouch surface particularly suitable for a MacBook (or a Mac Tablet, maybe?) ... continued »

Some MacBooks experiencing HDD failure 20x more than rivals

Posted on 30 October 2007 by

If there's a phrase that'll put the fear of God into any mobile user, it's "critical manufacturing flaw", but that's just what data recovery firm Retrodata has accused Apple of experiencing in some of their machines, particularly MacBook and MacBook Pro models, but also potentially Mac mini deskop units.  Retrodata chief Duncan Clarke has gone public with his concerns that the 2.5-inch ... continued »

Rumor: MacBook getting a processor upgrade by years end?

Posted on 10 October 2007 by

Thinking about getting a MacBook? I’d recommend waiting if any part of this is true. Apparently Apple is looking to update the MacBook lineup along side the release of Leopard. They aren’t sure if the update will bring Santa Rosa to the MacBook line or if it will just be some slightly faster speeds. continued »

Apple Mac OS X Leopard coming in October

Posted on 04 October 2007 by

The time is finally upon us, there is a new Apple.com page that states quite clearly that OSX Leopard is coming this month. No word on when though. If tradition is any hint Apple has tended to do some sort of PC hardware update in the fall, this time it should also yield a new version of the OS too. Who ... continued »

Apple post $818m profit despite analyst-depressing iPhone sales

Posted on 26 July 2007 by

Another quarter, another record Apple profit - but will everyone be pleased?  The Cupertino company have announced an $818 million profit in its fiscal third-quarter, with $5.41 billion in sales from April through June (a rise of 24-percent from the same period last year); sales of Macs and iPods are sky-high, shipping over 1.7 million of the former (up 33-percent) ... continued »

iPhone’s OS X to be used in Apple subportable?

Posted on 08 March 2007 by

I'd quite like to be a market analyst. It sounds like one-part gadget rumour, one-part wishful thinking and a final chunk of PowerPoint persuasion, though they're so circumspect about the methods they use to formulate their predictions that it might as well be witchcraft and magic jam-making. Latest to the podium is American Technology Research's Shaw Wu, a ... continued »
