It’s easy to forget the iPod shuffle. For a start, it’s very small; you could all too readily clip it to the ear of a passing dog and never see it again. Then there’s its bigger siblings, the delightfully thin nano and the video-capable iPod, both of which have been catching headlines recently with talk of updates come September 5th. But the dinky shuffle may be in for a change too, albeit a far less technical one; Apple Insider have got word that it’ll be the latest in Apple’s PRODUCT (RED) lineup.

Should your head have been under a rock recently, (RED) is a charity effort set up by Bobby Shriver and Bono (of U2 fame) designed to raise money and awareness of the AIDS problem in Africa. Apple is one of a number of companies that support the charity, with a percentage of (RED) product proceeds going directly to their good-deed coffers.
Apple Insider predicts a launch at the Special Event early next month.
