Could the next iPhone or the latest iteration of the iPod have this technology implemented into it? If Apple were to implement a multi-touch LCD like this into their devices the applications would be nearly endless.

Just imagine being able to use multiple gestures at a time to edit videos and photos you just took with your iPhone. Another possible use would be in the music industry, making and producing beats right on your iPod or iPhone.
The best part about this display is that they have dropped the film that formerly covered multi-touch touchscreens, instead each individual pixel has a sensor below it. The display can also be used as a scanner, so you could scan business cards into your iPhone or books for class, or even newspaper articles.
So the best part, this multi-touch LCD is already the same size as the one in the iPhone. That’s right, 3.5” with a 320×480 resolution and as thin as 1mm with the latest technology. Even better yet, I know, you didn’t think it got much better, but it does, the technology can be expanded up to 12.1 inches, can you say My iTablet?
Sharp Reveals Improved Multi-Touch LCD [via LaptopLogic]

I just think this product is the bomb..I need one bad!

Er, the iPhone and iPod Touch both have multi-touch capability. They only support two fingers (limitation of the logic employed at pulling two touch points out of a capacitive display), but that’s still multi-touch.
Now, if what you meant was *more robust* multi-touch, and given this thing’s size I’d be shocked if it supported anything more… then that would be interesting indeed.
