Rumor: 16GB iPhone

Alright, so instead of sitting around, questioning the legitimacy of these photos, and trying to figure out how they might have faked them, lets just go with the fact that a 16GB iPhone makes perfect sense and roll on. The iPod Touch maxes out at 16GB, the iPhone has only one SKU right now, which hasn’t happened with an Apple product in forever.

So, a 16GB iPhone makes perfect sense. Now they only question is, would they just add $100 to the current price of the iPhone to keep it differentiated from the iPod Touch, or would they drop the 8GB iPhone price and put the 16GB iPhone at the same price point as the 16GB iPod Touch?

Doing the latter would definitely up holiday sales of the iPhone, because the only choice you’d have to make to determine whether you want an iPhone or an iPod Touch would be whether you wanted a cellular plan to go with it or not. Unless by some act of divine intervention Apple answers all my prayers and releases a 32GB flash drive based iPod Touch, would I pay $500 for it, you bet your ass, maybe even $600 if they didn’t pull some BS and lock it down again like they did with firmware 1.1.1.

These have been posted elsewhere and found to be fakes.

It’s fake. If you notice, the picture of the iphone box seemingly displays the updated homescreen, complete with the WiFi iTunes icon, yet you’ll notice that the “=” key in the calculator icon is still a dark gray. After firmware update 1.1.1, the “=” key on the calculator icon was changed to orange to correspond with the icon on the iPod Touch.

  3. well, thats why i said lets NOT sit around an talk about the legitmacy of the photos, instead let’s talk about the likelihood of a 16GB iPhone hitting shelves

  4. Jonathan says:

Not likely, at least not before 2008. Steve Jobs and Apple already experienced a PR disaster with the lowering of iPhone prices so soon after the device was released, and gave the reason for the price drop as wanting to compete for holiday sales. Introducing a 16G iPhone now would almost insure price adjustments like you suggested, again changing the price of the 8G, and I just don’t think Apple will take that risk again so soon.

Damn, i just bought a 16 gb iPod touch, and it might be obsolete in a little while! That’s the problem of buying an iPod, you’re always tempted to but the newest thing.

  6. heh, i am getting ready to buy an ipod touch, a 16GB one, but i figurer they give you like 30 days to return it, so i figure if they are releasing a larger capacity Touch any time before next year, it will be in the next 30 days, so there’s that
