Somewhere, hidden inside the iPhone, a tiny Michael Winner is desperate to get out. No, I don’t mean it produces name-dropping restaurant reviews, I’m talking about it being a wannabe-director; how else could you explain the random appearance of “Action” when browsing with mobileSafari? Hold and press near the margin of a webpage and you’ll see a small button pop up – currently it doesn’t do anything, but who knows what mysterious powers Apple may instill in it…

Spotted by a MacRumors forum member, some believe it’s vestigial signs of cut & paste functionality while others think it’s merely a javascript leftover.

This happens if you press and hold on links, buttons and drop downs as well. Looks like a forthcoming enhancement, maybe a precursor to copy-and-paste.
Also works in email.
This happened prior to the update. I always thought it was kinda indicating yes the button you have your finger resting on performs an action but your outta luck because you’re on the iPhone.
just found it (04/12/2007) in an UK o2 iPhone. It looks like a glitch more than the begining of a copy and paste function
