There are some bees buzzing around and they say that ASUS, BenQ, and maybe even LG and Samsung are all looking to make touch-interface based handsets for next year. The sad part is, most of them are looking to use the latest version of Windows Mobile.

Samsung is pondering a Symbian or other custom OS, but still might go with WM6. All of the companies are looking to up the ante by adding some of the features that some might say are missing from the iPhone such as 3G and GPS.

I don’t think they can do it, I really don’t, God knows I’d love to see a real iPhone competitor, someone, anyone, to actually give Apple a run for their money, just so they can spur innovation again, but I don’t think it will happen. Why you might ask, because they don’t have the same vision as Apple, Apple really did hit it dead on with the iPhone, its simple, functional, attractive, has a decent amount of storage and battery life, the other companies will inevitably add too much of one or the other of those things and that will screw up the balance making it a crappy device. The only plus of any of those other devices, is they are open to 3rd party apps, whereas the iPhone is not.

Jah Live Steve Jobs!!
The iPhone really is the real deal.
I bought mine after using a collegues’ for a day.
An amazing device that blows my Blackberry out of the water.
The UI is a JOY to use.
I agree, the iPhone is the best communication device ever. However, what’s (I still don’t get) the big deal about native 3rd party apps? I’ve heard people say the iPhone is near perfect, and 3rd party apps would do the trick. I think that the web based apps on offer are amazing, but aside from making calls, getting email, setting appointments and instant messaging, what more is there to demand out of this device (besides being an amazing video touchscreen iPod)? What the heck are these magical apps and who said my iPhone is really missing them?
last i checked, the iphone DIDN’T have IM software, so clearly your iPhone IS missing software that you want on it, you just werent aware of it yet
It targets average users looking for entertainment.
It’s totally not for business people~ PERIOD~ It’s got a fancy look without the real meat for me~
