iPhone might run 3rd party apps!
After downloading the complete iPhone UI Images from modmyiphone.com, I was looking through the images, and I saw two, not one, but two signs that Apple will let 3rd-party apps run on everyone’s favorite new toy. The standard application icon, used in Mac OS X, is included with the iPhone. This image also has a black background… to be displayed on the home screen, unless, of course, the developer uses a custom icon. Even though the widgets on iPhone are actually “.app”s, they still behave like widgets. I’m guessing Apple will allow custom widgets to be written for iPhone, using the above image if the widget has no defined icon. I guess we’ll see whether or not Apple implements 3rd party apps on the iPhone. But from looking at these icons, I think that with time, Apple will open up iPhone and make use of these icons.
