If you received the rejection letter below, don’t take it personal. You’ll be happy (or sad – depending on how you look at it) that a lot of other folks are in the same boat. Apple did say in the press release accompanying the SDK announcement that “a limited number of developers will be accepted into Apple’s new iPhone Developer Program,” priced at $99.
Dear Registered iPhone Developer,
Thank you for expressing interest in the iPhone Developer Program. We have received your enrollment request. At this time, the iPhone Developer Program is available to a limited number of developers and we plan to expand the program during the course of the beta period. We will contact you again regarding your enrollment status at the appropriate time. Thank you for applying.
Best regards, iPhone Developer Program.

Hackintosh and Gizmodo both posted screenshots and a short video of the forthcoming iPhone 2.0 firmware. New stuff easily seen consist of support for Exchange, AppStore, Parental Controls, SDK Support, more advanced calculator, Cisco VPN support, Mail mass deletion. One feature I was hoping to see but not shown or supported is Spotlight Search icons in contacts.

The level of productivity in the work force will probably drop to a record low once all the new apps become available on the
iPhone. I anticipate high power execs, low-life lawyers and yes, your very own – Vincent will be sneaking away, finding excuses to play Namco’s new Pac man, Galaga or even PopCap’s Peggle, Zuma or Bejeweled.
I shouldn’t be too harsh on those of us finding new love for gaming on the iPhone, because we’ll be more likely productive and more organized thanks to Intuit’s version of the Quicken – claiming to “create powerful iPhone applications,” or NetSuite’s SuitePhone – which is a CRM software similar to salesforce.com.

While Apple may have been intending to demonstrate their new Enterprise features last week, they also - likely accidentally - unveiled another upcoming addition to the iPhone: contacts search. Spotted by Daniel Ahdout, the functionality is hinted at by the appearance of a small magnifying glass icon at the top of the list; you can see it yourself at 9 minutes 30 into the official Apple SDK Roadmap video.

The iPhone Dev Team have once again proved their worth by Jailbreaking Apple’s Firmware 2.0 for the iPhone - yes, the firmware that won’t be officially launched until June. The screenshot they provided - with a video apparently coming soon - shows apps running on the new firmware, which would normally require an as-yet-unawarded developer’s certificate.

If there’s anything to get a geek’s mouth watering, it’s LEGO, and developer play/nyc are looking to bring some of that fun to the iPhone. Okay, so there’s nothing quite like having the real bricks in your hands, but with LEGO Touch for iPhone you’d be able to build models, animate them and even send them to friends so that they can see you’ve been doing no work. It all takes advantage of MultiTouch, positioning different bricks (of which there seem to be quite a range) and zooming to focus on tricky designs.

EA was able to develop a new game for the iPhone within 2 weeks, and they’d never seen the SDK prior to that. They took and old classic “Spore” and put it on the iPhone.

“The animation technology in the iPhone OS enables us to build awesome games. I think iPhone consumers are going to be blown away by the games we create for this platform.”
CEO da EA, John Riccitiello
