Apple “PWNED” the iPhone Pwnage Tool – delayed until next week or later!

Mac OS X version of “Pwnage Tool” has been delayed until sometime next week. Apparently, legal inquiries were made to the DevTeam about the validity and legality of the contents of the tools. I knew these guys were way too arrogant for their own good. So it looks like Apple has the upper hand at the moment, and if they have any say in the matter, Pwnage will grounded permanently.

The iPhone DevTeam made it clear in the release statement that no third-party copyrighted software would ever be released. They also added that in the initial feedback from Beta testers, there are minor changes and additional features that should be developed. The delay will synch the release of Pwnage Tool for both Mac OSX and Windows mobile users. This sounds like a lame excuse for the delay. The DevTeam got bitched slapped by Apple, so they’re trying to save face. Nonetheless, I (we) shouldn’t be too harsh on them for delaying the release – they are after all doing a splendid job!

In case you’ve been sleeping under a rock the past week, Pwnage Tool allows you to flash custom unsigned firmware onto the iPhone or iPod touch. And per the DevTeam, “any subsequent firmware releases will also be vulnerable to “Pwnage”…like 1.2 (2.0) beta.”

To summarize :-

*Pwnage Tool Application releases _sometime_ in the next week for Mac OS X 10.4.x, 10.5.x and Windows.
*The tool contains revised logos and icons.
*PwnageTool does NOT ship with any Apple licensed software, Intellectual Property, trademarks, logos or images.
*As my Mother would say “If you are going to be late, arrive with flowers”.
