No wonder that augmented reality application is the biggest reason to upgrade to an iPhone 3GS, thanks to the addition of a compass to the iPhone 3GS. By using this app, you can easily find the nearby subways or track down your Twitter neighbors. Just wait until September, Apple says.

MasterCard Worldwide announced the Priceless Picks iPhone application, allowing users to find local shopping deals, entertainment option, dining venues and more, thanks to the device’s GPS technology. The free app is available at the iPhone App Store or at www.itunes.com/appstore.

AT&T today introduced its location based services app, AT&T Navigator [iTunes link] for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, bringing full audible and visual turn-by-turn navigation service. It allows iPhone customers to enjoy map updates, speech recognition, ETA updates, business listings, real-time traffic alerts, one-touch rerouting and daily gas prices.

TomTom is not the only company to show you the power of OS 3.0's navigation capability. Navigon have announced that they’ll be releasing their own iPhone PND app called MobileNavigator. MobileNavigator will be available in the international AppStore within this month.

TomTom’s turn-by-turn navigation app is one of the most interesting capabilities of Apple iPhone OS 3.0. Both Tomtom's software app and accompanying car kit were announced, complete with Points Of Interest (POIs) and both 2D and 3D mapping.

A turn-by-Turn GPS application for the iPhone, the G-Map application, already exists in the App Store. There is no monthly fee required and no internet or wi-fi connection needed. Each application (XRoad Co.'s G-Map U.S. West and G-Map U.S. East) will cost you $19.99.

xGPS rocks! The newest beta 1.2 of xGPS uses Google's map data and adds it's own navigation readout and a voice engine.
