Many consumers are changing from traditional home phone lines to VOIP service with carriers like Vonage. Services like Vonage are cheaper than most traditional phone plans, especially for those who call outside of the US frequently.

Vonage has announced that Apple has approved its mobile app for the iPhone. Vonage says its mobile app is currently in beta testing and will be offered for general availability at a later date.
I have to wonder how AT&T will feel about that, if Apple blocked Google Voice it seems like they would want to block Vonage too. Perhaps the FCC inquiry put the company under enough pressure to approve the app.

I believe AT&T blocked Google Voice, not Apple. Skype already has a iPhone app for their VOIP service, this is no different so it is unlikely the FCC was involved in any way. This isn’t news and shouldn’t be present as such.

Yes–Skype has an app for the iphone–but you can only use VOIP over wifi only. Will be no different when Vonage comes out. AT&T is definitely involved–they don’t want any competition with other long distance providers.
Is it definite that ATT will require vonage to work thru WiFi only. Anybody have any hard data on that. Some of the folks that are currently running the beta should be able to answer the WiFi question.
