That’s right, for $5, maybe less depending on what you have handy, you can replace your iPhone’s busted screen. It won’t work if you puncture far enough through your phone to actually break the LCD, but it it’s just the glass, read on.

The parts list is a 1/32-inch thick piece of plexi-glass, transparent plastic, something of that nature, a razor blade, Dremel, scissors, and Goo Gone. Eye protection is also recommended, but that’s probably only for the part where you use the Dremel.

Use the razor blade to scrap off the remnants of the previous glass screen, cut out the plastic to fit, use paint or a Sharpie to black out the areas that are supposed to be black, use the Goo Gone to remove the left over glue on the LCD screen, then affix the new plastic cover. Word is the touchscreen still works just like it should, and unless someone gets up close, they can’t tell the difference.
Fix your Broken iPhone screen for $5 [via SlashGear]

There is a reason the iPhone screen is GLASS, not plastic.
This a great idea for the low budget, but I am not sure that a plastic screen would really do the trick. It seems like there would be a lot of problems with the functionality after the glass screen was busted. All in all though it would be good to at least still be able to use the iPhone until you could afford to fix it right. Thanks for the post.
where do you buy the plastic?
does this really work?
will it mess up ur phone?
where can i buy the 1/32 inche thick plastic? i’ve been looking aroudn but cannot find it.
You can purchase the plastice at your local hardware store such as; Lowes and Home Depot. For you to have the clarity of glass just purchase glass that 1/32 thin you can cut it yourself and install that instead of plastic. Both will work. If you mess it up you can Let apple fix it for the cost. Inwhich most people do anyways
how can i fix my iphone glass outside usa?
I’ve attempted to fix my broken iphone screen without complete success but the lessons learned should help others.
where can i buy the screen?
How do you know if you have just broken the screen or the LCD screen as well??
I must say, I could not agree with you in 100%, but it’s just my IMHO, which indeed could be wrong.

How about the plastic from a soda bottle? Maybe flattened using a heatgun, hairdryer, iron, etc.? Please post back if you try this.
do it so i can laugh at your ignorance
Why would anyone make their iPhone look ugly when for really cheap you can have it repaired? These guys helped me http://www.repairmyiphonescreen.com
What this guy posted is completely incorrect. There is something called a “digitizer” that is fused to the glass. If you just throw some retro fitted piece of plastic on there … LET ME ASSURE YOU WITH COMPLETE CERTAINTY that there will be no touch response.
Where do people come up with this nonsense?
dave is rite how will the plastic,Its nonsence really how will the touchscreen work, so instead of me fuckn it up worser then it already is where do i take it to have the screen replace an unlock
Most people that fix your iPhone screens replace it with plastic anyways. I broke mine and got it fixed for $100 and they put plastic on it, I was suprised but it works just the same. So there is no particular reason whatsoever why it is glass… it works, home job may not look at good and as fitted but it will work.
You could just get it repaired for 40 bucks at IPhone Fixes on the Cheap
