The Apple iPhone is priced at:
$499 for the 4GB model - with a 2-year contract $599 for the 8GB model - with a 2-year contract
NOTE: Cingular / AT&T is very clear that if you live in an area where they don't currently service directly, you will not be able to purchase an iPhone. That being said.
Also, Apple is very clear that carriers are NOT ALLOWED to subsidize the price of the phone in any way, shape or form. The $499 / $599 is the actual cost of the iPhone.

Honestly, it seems quite expensive! I wonder how much I will have to pay with a 3-year contract. I always sign up for 3 years, because after 1.5years you get a free phone/hefty discount!

no diff, the price is for a 2-year contract. Jobs said it at Macworld and AT&T has been saying the same. It will take an act of God to get the price any lower at launch.

Well, I believe in god. So I will count on it, but I bet that god doesn't care about cell phones.
Normally I get my phones with a 3yr-contract. Most providers in Canada (Bell, Telus, Rogers, Fido, Solo, etc) all have the option of getting a additional $200 or so off the pricetag when you sign up for 3yr.
But I've got to wait until the end of the year to get my iPhone. Ah well, plenty of time to save up.
